Davis Bozeman Law Firm Media Statement Regarding Baby AJ
The family of AJ Burgess and their attorneys, met with Emory Hospital leadership on November 2, 2017. The meeting was prompted by student and community activists who entered an administration building and demanded a meeting with the President of Emory Healthcare. The family’s attorneys were contacted and invited by the activists to bring the family to meet with the Emory officials after the President of Emory Healthcare invited them into a conference room to meet.
As a result of this meeting, an agreement has been reached to discuss a plan to move forward with the kidney transplant surgery for Baby AJ. The family and attorneys will meet with Emory officials on Monday, November 6, 2017. Emory Hospital officials, parents of AJ Burgess, their attorneys and transplant community activist David Manuel will meet to conclude the process for Mr. Dickerson to donate his kidney to his son.
“I am so grateful to the community for their voices, tweets, marches and prayers. We could not have made it this far without you. Our family feels a responsibility to keep everyone updated on AJ’s progress. Please continue praying for us.” Carmellia Burgess. Mother of Baby AJ
“We are encouraged and faithful that this first step made by Emory Hospital to open communications with Baby AJ’s parents is the right one. As a firm we strive to stay focused on the best outcome for our clients and Baby AJ deserves this first step to lead to a successful transplant surgery as soon as possible.” – Attorney Harold S
pence
“The overwhelming response of Emory theological students, former City Councilman Derrick Boazman, Reverend Derrick Rice of Sankofa UCC and the community as a whole in support of Baby AJ has helped to make this first step happen. We are committed as a firm to continuing to support our clients through this entire process until Baby AJ can receive his kidney and live a more fulfilling and healthy life.” – Attorney Mawuli Davis
Updated Status as of November 6, 2017
Baby AJ had a successful dialysis through his new port over the weekend. He also laughed and smiled for his mom this past Sunday November 5, 2017. We are praying for his release from the hospital this week.
“Today’s meeting was another positive step toward Baby AJ receiving his Dad’s kidney. We had another open and frank conversation with Emory officials who will be involved with the transplant team. In the next several weeks Mr. Dickerson will complete the necessary follow-up appointments required for him to be cleared to donate one of his kidneys to his son. Baby AJ had to have a blood transfusion today so we are not sure how soon he will be released. The family appreciates the community’s continued support and prayers.” Attorney Mawuli Davis, Davis Bozeman Law

ATTORNEY FOR RAPPER DARRYL “LIL SCRAPPY” RICHARDSON FILES EMERGENCY MOTION FOR HIM TO BE RELEASED ON BOND AFTER HIS ARREST FOR PROBATION VIOLATON
Entertainer Darryl “Lil Scrappy” Richardson was arrested on Monday, October 1, 2012. He has been charged with violation of probation and is being detained in the DeKalb County Jail. Mr. Richardson, who is currently a cast member of Love & Hip Hop: Atlanta, had completed all the special conditions of his probation and was no longer required to report to probation.
Mr. Richardson is being represented by Attorney Mawuli Mel Davis of the Davis Bozeman Law Firm. Attorney Davis stated “Mr. Richardson was moved to a non-reporting status about 18-months ago and was not aware that his Probation Officer had sent his notice to his previous home address. It was an oversight that Mr. Richardson did not update his address with probation. He accepts his responsibility for not updating his address, but we think it is important to note that he has not been re-arrested for any new criminal offenses since the conclusion of his case. This warrant is the result of an unfortunate misunderstanding and Mr. Richardson will work with probation to get this resolved.”
An Emergency Motion for Bond was filed on Mr. Richardson’s behalf on October 2, 2012. A DeKalb County Judge will hear the case on Wednesday, October 3, 2012 at 8:30 a.m.
